Sketch Of The Day: Yemaya,The Yoruba Sea Goddess

After a brief hiatus, I started working on the Black Goddess series again. I'm currently working on doing a painting of Yemaya. She's the Yoruba Orisha of the salt waters while Oshun rules the fresh rivers and lakes.

You can see the first painting in the series (Oshun) here.

Sketches of The Day: Feb 23rd 2015: Oshun and Storm (X Men)

I've always wanted to research and do a series of paintings  about the Youruba pantheon of gods and goddesses also known as Orishas. According to this quiz, I'm most like Oshun so I decided to draw her first. Oshun is the goddess of the fresh waters and love. She is known to bring healing to the sick and prosperity to the poor. Her signature collour is yellow, so I'll be including that in the final piece.

Storm is my all time favourite member of the X-Men. She's powerful and carries herself with a regal dignity, like a true goddess should. I'm not sure if her creators at Marvel considered this but she's very much like Oya, the Orisha in control of the wind, rain and storms.

Storm aka Ororo Munro, goddess of the X-Men

Can't wait to work on these pieces some more!
