Sketches of The Day: Feb 23rd 2015: Oshun and Storm (X Men)

I've always wanted to research and do a series of paintings  about the Youruba pantheon of gods and goddesses also known as Orishas. According to this quiz, I'm most like Oshun so I decided to draw her first. Oshun is the goddess of the fresh waters and love. She is known to bring healing to the sick and prosperity to the poor. Her signature collour is yellow, so I'll be including that in the final piece.

Storm is my all time favourite member of the X-Men. She's powerful and carries herself with a regal dignity, like a true goddess should. I'm not sure if her creators at Marvel considered this but she's very much like Oya, the Orisha in control of the wind, rain and storms.

Can't wait to work on these pieces some more!

DC Comics Black Canary Fan Art

I love Arrow, the TV series. I watched every episode available on Netflix in about two days.  Black Canary is one of the best parts of the show. She's such a bad-ass female character that I thought it would be fun to draw her.

This is my first time doing comic book fan art and I like how it came out. I'm still trying to figure out my art style. I can feel myself leaning towards  this graphic comic/cartoon art. It's really fun!

I think I will try drawing more characters from DC comics and the Marvel Universe? Which one should I do next? Let me know in the comments below.

Sketches of The Day Feb 19 2015

I'm getting back into the groove of drawing again. My main goal right now is to figure out my style and the themes/topics I want to focus on.

Moving forward I will upload my daily pencil sketches here just to document my progress.
